Saviors of God — ROLE
“We come from a dark abyss; we end up in a dark abyss; the bright space in between we call it Zoe (Life)”, Nikos Kazantzakis
This is a musical preview from of a personal project I’m working on. It is a four piece composition written for a string ensemble and piano and is inspired the book “The Saviors of God” (ASKITIKI) by Nikos Kazantzakis. The project is also transcribed and my goal is to have it recorded live played by an actual ensemble.
Kazantzakis argues that “Ascetic” is a cry and all his work a comment that carries his anxiety to overcome the boundaries of the mind, the phenomena and to solve the mystery of existence.
In this book Kazantzakis thought that there are two streams in life: the first one runs toward ascesis, synthesis, life and immortality, while the second one runs towards dissolution, matter, death.
However, both streams are part of the universe, and being so, sacred. One of Kazantzakis' main concerns was what force drives the uncreated to the created. As opposition seems to be intrinsic to life and infinite, human beings should strive to ascend to a harmonic view of these oppositions, to be a guide for thought and action.
